Therfield School – KS5 Results and progression/destinations – 2018-19

We are, once again, very happy with our Key Stage 5 results this August which are a tribute to the hard work and on-going collaboration between the students, parents, and staff at Therfield. Our results continue to place us in the top 25% of all Sixth Forms nationally for progress over recent years. All students who applied to University gained places, including many on extremely competitive courses at elite institutions with destinations spanning from Cambridge to Sussex and Portsmouth to Sheffield.

Headline figures:

With the continued introduction of the new, more challenging courses we are particularly happy with our improved results.
• 1 in 6 results achieved were either A*’s or A’s,
• 43% of all grades achieved were B grades or better,
• Around 70% were grades C or better.

Key success stories:

• Simon King is taking up 1 of only 3 places offered at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, to study Veterinary Science having achieved 3 A*’s and a B.
• Nia Marvin is taking up a medical course at Southampton University with an A*, an A, and a grade B.
• Katie Jones and James Cunningham both achieved 1 A* and 2 B’s and are taking up places to study Engineering at Sheffield University and History at Nottingham University respectively.
• The successes continued through the cohort with at least two students becoming the first in their families to attend university. One of these, who sits within the Government’s “Disadvantaged” group, will be studying Law and we continue to be particularly proud of our work with this important group of students.

The link with the school continues past Year 13, with many leavers choosing to join the Therfield Sixth Form Alumni Group; this is a group of over 900 ex-Therfield students who continue to work with the school offering mentoring and workshops throughout the year and at our yearly Alumni Day, in July, for Year 10 and 12 students.
Congratulations to all our outgoing Year 13 students on their achievements and their hard work throughout their 7-year journey with us at Therfield.
