School News

Students from Therfield School had an experience of a lifetime in the world of rugby union! Students from across each year group at Therfield were able to develop their skill and visualise what it would be like to be a modern day professional rugby player.

On arrival the students were able to tour the changing rooms minutes before the Harlequin’s players were to enter. The children discovered the work that the changing room staff endured prior to a game, from laying out individual’s kit to the importance of refreshments and even the choice of music played. Then after running out onto the pitch down the tunnel the boys experienced an hour and a half of first class coaching from Harlequin’s top coaching staff, followed by a quick photo with the actual Amlin Cup on the pitch.

It was after the training the students were able to find out what it was like to be a professional rugby star when two of the Harlequin’s first team players came down to a question and answer session. Therfield students were able to ask a barrage of questions even the players found difficult to answer as was the incredible interest shown. After a quick change into their best spectator clothing the students then watched Harlequin’s battle a tough Connaught side to win 25-17 and thus continue their un-beaten run to 11 games this season which is now the longest unbeaten run ever by an English team in top flight competitions!

It was obviously the presence of the Therfield students that enabled Harlequin’s to reach their goal and hopefully now Therfield can do them justice in taking this experience and using it in their next performance by continuing the ever successful results of rugby teams across the whole school. A massive thank you goes out to the staff involved from both Harlequin’s and Therfield.
